Old black and white photographs are attractive primarily for their historical value, as a cast of the era. It’s always interesting to see how people lived 50 or 100 years ago, their way of life, fashion, work, especially if these are real life photographs and not something artistic. Well, if we are talking about famous events or outstanding personalities, then such photographs arouse not only idle interest, but also historical and scientific ones.

General Koller brought me up to date today based on messages provided to him by Colonel General Jodl and General Christian (Chief of Wehrmacht Operations and Commander of the 29th Grenadier Division SS Italy). According to them, you referred to certain decisions regarding me and emphasized that if the need for negotiations arose, I would be in an easier position than you in Berlin. This surprised me and made me assume that if I do not receive a response by 22:00, this will mean that you have lost your freedom of action. Then I will consider the conditions of your order fulfilled and will take measures for the well-being of the people and the fatherland. You know how I feel for you in these most difficult hours of my life. I can't put it into words. May God protect you and allow you, despite everything, to come as soon as possible.
Your Hermann Gerning.
