The largest and most colorful historical festival in Russia deploys its tents on the territory of the capital's park "Kolomenskoye".

"Times and Epochs" - a series historical festivals in Moscow, each of which is dedicated to the reconstruction of a particular era. The event is organized by the Ratobortsy historical projects agency, known for such high-profile holidays as Ladogafest, as well as for its significant role in the creation. In terms of the level of preparation and saturation of the program, this event is deservedly considered one of the largest festivals of historical reconstruction in the world. Every year, more than 300,000 people become its guests, and the leading reenactment clubs from different countries become its participants.

The success story of the historical "series" began in 2011. Then the first festival "Times and Epochs" was held in the Kolomenskoye Museum-Reserve, highlighting the so-called "Viking Age" and. Subsequently, such significant periods of world history as the Moscow Kingdom of the Time of Troubles (2012), Medieval Europe (2013), World War I (2014), Rome and Antiquity (2015) and Ancient Russia IX-XI centuries (2016).

New discoveries await guests every year. In 2019, they will be sites dedicated to the history of Mesoamerica, Muscovy of the 15th century and the Ottoman Empire.

Entrance to "Times and Epochs", as well as visits to thematic excursions regularly held here, are free.













From June 1 to 12, Moscow will host the international festival Times and Epochs at 30 venues. Meeting". For 12 days, 12 historical eras will be reproduced on the streets and in parks: from antiquity to the 20th century.

Visitors to the parks will be able to witness large-scale battles, equestrian competitions, fencing tournaments or take part in master classes of artisans and cooks.

Festival Times and Epochs. What's this?

The festival of historical reconstruction has been held in Moscow since 2011. This is the only such event held in the metropolis: as a rule, reenactors gather on the battlefields. The main venue of the festival has always been the Kolomenskoye Museum-Reserve. Each year, the participants focused on one era: in 2011 - Ancient Russia, in 2012 - the Moscow Kingdom, in 2013 - the Middle Ages, in 2014 main theme became the first World War, in 2015 - Antiquity, in 2016 - the princely strife of Ancient Russia.

“Times and epochs. Collection” is the main historical festival in Russia and one of the largest in the world. This is an exhibition of the achievements of world reconstruction. Fighters and merchants, musicians and artisans, military engineers and stuntmen from all over the world bring their best practices to show them to guests.

The Times and Epochs series began in 2011. The festivals were held in the Kolomenskoye Museum-Reserve and each year were dedicated to a new historical theme. “Times and epochs. Assembly” breaks the pattern. Now it is an unprecedented convention of reenactors representing all eras of world history. For 12 days (including 5 days off), 6,000 reenactors will immerse Muscovites and tourists in history at 30 venues throughout the capital. Since 2011, more and more foreigners have been participating in each "Times and Epochs". Colleagues spread the news about the Moscow festival and Russian hospitality around the world. This year we are waiting for 1000 reenactors from Italy, Great Britain, Sweden, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovenia, Estonia, Czech Republic, France, Spain, Poland, Serbia, USA, Greece, Romania, Latvia, Ireland. There has never been such a quantity and scope!

At each site, you can chat with reenactors, learn unusual details from the life of the era, learn the crafts and games of bygone times. In any case - immersion in history, interesting knowledge and useful experience are guaranteed!

When does it pass?

Novy Arbat will be transformed into a battle arena, which will bring together more than a hundred strongest swordsmen from different eras. On four rings you will find tournaments "shield-sword", "bastard sword", "one-handed sword", "on two swords". Halberdiers and experts in knife combat will show their skills. You will see the fights of Eastfeh superstars, whose fame resounds all over the world, professional full-contact fights according to the rules of the WMFC, and early Middle Ages squad competitions.

At the fair near the rings, you can buy copies and stylizations of medieval artifacts, get an old hairstyle, take pictures in armor and try your hand at tambar fencing.

When does it pass?

Within the framework of "Times and Epochs", for the first time in Russia, a competition of historical projects is being held, where both Russians and foreign citizens participate. From June 1 to June 12, presentations of the 16 most interesting nominees of the competition will be held at four venues on the Boulevard of History.

The main condition for participation: the project must have a reliable historical content. 68 projects were accepted for consideration and submitted to the expert council. 13 historical parks, 10 festivals, 9 museums and expositions, 7 recreated crafts and technologies, 5 books, and more such unusual ideas, as a reconstruction of a shipwreck off the African coast, a theatrical tavern-bakery and a flying copy of the Blériot XI airplane.

In addition to project presentations, here you will see locations that do not fall into the main topics of the festival, for example, dedicated to the Second World War or Ancient Russia.

Early 20th century

When does it pass?

On Tverskaya Square, guests will plunge into the atmosphere of the Silver Age. The interiors of a Moscow hotel will be recreated in the Living Room pavilion late XIX- the beginning of the XX century. The audience will get acquainted with the multifaceted culture of Russia in this unusually poetic time. It will also be located here information centre, where you can learn about all the events of the festival, relax to the music of the piano and antique gramophone. This is the place of departure for tourist groups to the festival sites. The information center staff speaks Russian and English.

Costumed heroes walk around the square, and on the open stage, the Bulgakov House Museum-Theater shows performances about the life of Moscow bohemia. Nearby there is an interactive exhibition of antique musical instruments, including a working gramophone of the early 20th century, which belonged to the maid of honor Alexandra Feodorovna.

In the setting of the Silver Age, even little guests will not get bored - every day from 13:00 to 16:00 a children's school of fine arts operates on the site.

Military historical miniature - common name for playing soldiers and making models of soldiers, equipment, fortresses.

You will be able to return to childhood and plunge into history through a game loved by both the great commanders of antiquity and ordinary boys of all times and countries.

Get acquainted on understandable material with the evolution of uniforms, tactics, engineering and fortification of different states.

Two "sandboxes" will be placed on the boulevard - this is how tactical tables are called, on which you can simulate terrain, build and destroy fortresses, and play out historical battles. Each day will be dedicated to its era of wars - from antiquity to the 20th century.

Every day the owners of the soldiers will talk about their collections and show the works of old masters. Feel like a warlord by fighting in tactical board games, learn how to paint miniatures and cast tin soldiers.

The site is dedicated to the education and development of Kitay-gorod. The site is based on five models of this area in different eras from the 12th to the 20th century. Two more models will show the lost buildings of the district: the Nikolsky (Vladimir) Gate and the Aptekarsky Prikaz. The linking detail of the street will be the "time line", applied to the asphalt. It will contain a retrospective of events and milestones in the history of the area.

In four stereoscopes on Nikolskaya you can see three-dimensional photographs of the old Kitay-gorod.

When does it pass?

You will get acquainted with the life of the Kadashevskaya Sloboda, which was located here in the 18th century. This is the street of Petrovsky Moscow, arranged in the European manner. Peter I demanded from his subjects a new way of life, tastes, fashion, and occupations. And many willingly responded to his demands.

There will be sectional houses showing the interiors and everyday life of Russian and foreign citizens of the 18th century. In the Dutch house you can see the life of a major official, at the mint you can learn about the monetary reform of the young emperor and mint yourself a full-fledged Peter's ruble. Indeed, since 1701 there was a mint in Kadashi, which worked until 1736. In addition to money, “beard signs” were minted here - evidence of the payment of a tax on a beard.

Peter I paid great attention to the development of medicine and pharmacy, in 1701 he issued a decree on the opening of 8 private pharmacies in Moscow. Such a pharmacy with live medicinal herbs and drugs you will also see. The pharmacist will teach you how to mix powders and apply leeches and talk about 18th century medicine.

At the engraver you can print a funny popular print as a keepsake, and at the navigation school you can learn how to handle a sextant and an astrolabe, knit sea ​​knots, collect and dissolve the sail.

Kuznetsky Most will be full of contrasts: twenty ultra-modern glass honeycomb houses will house figures of past eras - both celebrities and ordinary inhabitants and artisans. Guests will see the work of the 14th-century Italian architect Aristotle Fioravanti, the pioneer printer Ivan Fedorov, and the Moscow photographer of the early 20th century from the studio of V. Chekhovsky. Fioravanti in front of the audience will develop a model of the Assumption Cathedral of the Kremlin, and Ivan Fedorov will print the first Russian alphabet.

It will be possible to look into the workshops of a shoemaker of the 13th century and armored workers of the Moscow kingdom, get acquainted with the craft of a puppeteer of the 19th century and study the secret life of Moscow counterfeiters under the guise of law-abiding jewelers. Stands and showcases with photographs of finds, according to which reconstructions were made in the houses, will tell about the life of the inhabitants of the honeycombs.

Archeology for kids

Four archaeological pavilions will open for young guests, where they will learn how to conduct excavations in accordance with all the rules of science and feel like members of a real expedition.

The first pavilion will house an archaeological excavation site, while the second pavilion will house a dump. The third pavilion will become a cameral workshop where children will clean up and conserve the finds. In the archaeological library in the fourth pavilion, young scientists will be able to identify and "certify" the artifacts that they unearthed at the excavation site.

Gastronomy of different eras

A special block is the honeycombs of historical gastronomy. Together with the bakers, the guests will prepare the dough for homemade bread according to old Russian recipes and enjoy kalachi from the oven, sitting on bales of hay. Medieval fishermen will teach you to salt, dry and dry fish, butchers will teach you how to fry sausages with lingonberry sauce according to books from the 15th century. A 19th-century greengrocer's shop will tell you how to soak apples, ferment cabbage according to a traditional Moscow recipe, and pickle cucumbers in a pumpkin.

The Patriotic War of 1812 occupies an important place in the history of Russia. Its results have raised the international prestige of our country.

You will be able to compare the military and civilian culture of the two great powers during the Napoleonic Wars. On the site there will be camps of the Russian and French armies with models of guns and a general staff, a recruiting and cavalry school, a smithy and a sutler's shop. On June 6, a review of the French army will be held by one of the founders of Russian reconstruction - Oleg Sokolov.

You will also get acquainted with the peaceful occupations of the Russian aristocracy. On weekends, the dance floor will host the program "Silhouettes of the Great Era" (defile of ballroom and walking toilets of the Empire era). It will be possible to learn historical ballroom dancing, listen to hussar songs and romances based on poems by Davydov, Pushkin, Lermontov, Baratynsky.

XIII - XV centuries

The siege of the fortress at all times was an exceptional matter. Military engineers used tricks to destroy walls and built siege engines of the most different types and sizes.

A park of siege weapons of the 13th-15th centuries will open on Vostochnaya Street. Medieval military engineers will assemble trebuchets, an arcballista and a catapult, which you can test on a powerful seven-meter fortress wall with two towers. The defenders of the fortress will hide behind mobile mantlet shields, and they can also be bombarded with a hail of shells! The largest operating trebuchet in Russia with a height of 12 meters will work.

"Sevastopol Promenade" will tell about the heroic events of the Crimean War and how the pearl of the Black Sea coast rose from the ruins. One half of Chistoprudny Boulevard will present the history of the defense of Sevastopol, the other half - a flourishing city of the late 19th - early 20th century.

At the entrance to the "promenade" the heroes of the Crimean War will raise the St. Andrew's flag. This artillery position will become a living embodiment of Roubaud's panorama, where the defenders of Sevastopol are captured at the moment of a break between battles.

A photo exhibition will open behind the bastion, because the middle of the 19th century is the time of the first photographers. You will see photos from the trenches of 1853-1856 and from the ruins of Sevastopol. Will stand next to you memorial Complex in honor of the defenders of the city.

Walking from the memorial, you will plunge into the atmosphere of post-war Sevastopol in the 1880s-1900s. The city square of that time will be recreated here - with a musical and theatrical gazebo, a photo studio and a summer cafe. Here you can learn about the history of cinema in practice! The harsh proletarian cinema of the 1920s is filmed on the Eisenstein site. The Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve will be transported back to the 18th century. An exquisite imperial carousel of Catherine the Great will take place here, and then you will get acquainted with the harsh life of soldiers early XVIII century, their routine and exploits.

"Carousel" - theatrical procession and equestrian ballet. This is a glorious tradition adopted by Catherine II from Europe; it was arranged until the middle of the 19th century in honor of significant events and holidays. Tsaritsyno was conceived as the residence of Catherine, and she visited the palace under construction just in early June 1785.

On another site in the park, Peter's soldiers will set up a camp, fortify it with gabions and set up an artillery battery. In the recruiting school, recruits will be drilled in drill. The famous swordsman and his students will demonstrate mastery of saber and sword.

Near the field camp, the Green Street platform will open - this is the name of the soldier's punishment, when the convict passed through the line and was beaten with gauntlet rods. Soldiers of the Russian Imperial Army will set up camp in the memorial park of the heroes of the First World War, and the sisters of mercy will set up a field hospital. The site is imbued with the atmosphere of the pre-war period in the Russian Empire.

Watch how a strict officer trains recruits in military service and puts up guards, take pictures with military equipment of those years - the Renault FT-17 tank, the Austin Putilovets and Mannesmann-Mulag armored vehicles, the models of the Ilya Muromets and Fokker aircraft.

At the recruiting station, the clerk will register volunteers, and the guests will study the army regulations and listen to lectures on military service.

The hospital will talk about nursing communities and military medicine, show surgical instruments of the early 20th century.

The memorial and park complex is one of the few places in Moscow directly connected with the First World War. From information stands you will learn about medicine, weapons, camping equipment.

In the village of the Celts and the camp of the Germans, you can look at the life, rituals, games and military exercises of the barbarian tribes of the ancient period. Before the eyes of the audience, the ferocious barbarians will arrange a massacre for the Romans!

The Hellenistic world will be represented by the ancient Greeks, Bosporans, and Scythians. The Roman Forum will be the center of the civic program. In the temple of Vesta, priestesses will perform rites, and a speaker from the podium will announce the emperor's latest decisions.

Equestrian and foot gladiators will compete in the circus arena, and sports and military competitions will be held. In the circus, the solemn triumphal procession of the Roman commander will end.

The site is dedicated to the Dyakovites - the tribes of the early Iron Age, who inhabited the territory of present-day Moscow. This culture was named after the excavation site at the Dyakovo settlement in the Kolomenskoye park.

We know very little about the Dyakovites, their culture is full of mysteries - what are the appearance and attire of these people, their social structure and religious views? Who was buried in the "houses of the dead"? Why were “horned” bricks and clay weights, found by the hundreds, made? And the main mystery is where this tribe disappeared, because the archaeological gap between the Dyakovites and the first Slavs on Moscow soil is about 400 years old.

At Times and Epochs, scientists will lift the veil over this mysterious culture. Leading archaeologists will give lectures on Dyakovo ceramics, costume, jewelry, hunting and religion. The story will be illustrated by craftsmen, demonstrating to guests technological processes early Iron Age.     Festival “Times and Epochs. Collection” is a project of the Moscow Government. It takes place as part of the cycle of urban street events "Moscow Seasons".

    The Moscow Historical Festival "Times and Epochs" is changing its format. Now this is not just an event in Kolomenskoye dedicated to a specific period. The festival is becoming a grand convention for 6,000 reenactors from all over the world (citizens of the USA, France, Italy, Romania, Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia, Poland, Great Britain, Sweden, Latvia, Norway, Germany, Spain) who will represent epochs from Antiquity to the 20th century. “Times and epochs.     As part of the "Times and Epochs" there will be 5 park festival and 25 thematic city sites throughout Moscow.
