Passing points to the institute: what is it, how are they calculated

Schoolchildren who have completed grade 11 and decided to go to college are faced with a lot of incomprehensible terms. One of these is the "passing score". What does this phrase mean? How are the passing scores calculated at the institute for the specialties of interest? Let's look into all these issues.

What is a passing score?

Each state institute invites applicants to apply not only for paid, but also for state-funded places. Free education is funded by the state. Every year, universities determine the number of places where students will study on a budget form.

All applicants can apply for free education. However, it is impossible to enroll absolutely everyone, because the number of budget places is limited. For the selection of applicants, the concept of "passing points to the institute" was created. This term refers to the number of points that allows you to study for free.

Calculation of passing points

The indicator is always calculated after the completion of the admission campaign. This is done very simply:

• a list of applicants is compiled and the total score for the USE or entrance examinations is calculated for each person;
• the list is ranked in descending order of results;
• from the beginning of the list, the number of positions is counted, which corresponds to the number of free places;
• the last position contains the passing score.

It is calculated by the members of the selection committee after the completion of the receipt of documents and passing the entrance examinations.

At the sight of high scores, they have a desire to achieve these values, to show a good result and, as a result, to enter the budget. That is, in such cases, passing scores become an incentive for quality training. As a result, sometimes applicants with poor grades at school manage to enter the budget department.
