Experimental work on growing geraniums in a vegetative way. Research project "Pelargonium grafting". We know: indoor flowers have healing power

How indoor geranium (pelargonium) multiplies: growing from a cuttings, seeds, a method of dividing a bush.

Ask people on the street about the most common houseplant and most will name geranium. This flower has long taken its place on our windowsills, and in fact, pelargonium (this is the scientific name of the usual geranium) is widespread and in the open air in gardens and parks.

Indoor geranium, or as it is also called, pelargonium, like most other flowers, reproduces in two main ways: with the help of seeds, and vegetatively (by cuttings or by dividing a bush).Of all these methods, the most optimal and simplest widely used by flower growers is cuttings.

Propagation of geranium by cuttings

You can cut indoor geraniums, in general, throughout the year. But given that in the spring, in the presence of an increasing daylight hours and more clear days, shoots will regrow faster than in autumn. It is better to do this at the end of March - April.

For this you will need:

Sharp knife.

A specimen of geranium with side shoots

A container with soil, where the new plant will take root.

The shoot to be separated should be 5 to 7 cm long and bear 2-3 leaves on its stem. Cut off the stem with a sharp knife and let the shoot lie for 2-3 hours to dry the cut site.

To prevent rotting, many growers sprinkle the cut with crushed coal.

You can plant the cutting in a pot with soil prepared in the usual way, in which young geraniums will grow in the future.

There is another way - to allow the new plant to take root in the soil of coarse sand. Watering should be done in moderation (sand should be wet, not wet). This will help prevent stem rot at the cut site.

When watering, water should not get on the stems and leaves, and the temperature in the room should be at least 20 ° C. You do not need to cover the stalk. After the roots appear, after 10 to 12 days, geraniums can be transplanted into permanent soil.

The third way is the way of propagation of geraniums by cuttings in water.

To do this, the stalk, after it has been cut, is placed in a glass of water, after it takes root and they grow - the stalk from the water should be transplanted into the ground, where it will continue to develop.

In the following video, the process of propagation of geraniums by cuttings is described and shown in as much detail as possible, I recommend that you familiarize yourself with:

Dividing the bush

Geraniums are not very fond of transplants, but if the plant has grown so much that it began to lack the volume of the pot, of course, you will have to do this too.

Transplanting geraniums is the most opportune moment to get a new plant by dividing the bush.

Having taken the plant out of the pot and gently shaking off the ground, you need to carefully consider the state of the renewal buds. They should not be rotten or dry.

Having chosen a section of a plant with healthy buds, you need to separate it and plant it in a permanent place of growth.

Watering the separated bush should be moderate for several days, as waterlogging can provoke rotting of the roots and base of the stem.

The division of the bush, as well as the transplant, is best done in late spring or early summer. During this period, the plant takes root faster in new soil and starts growing.

Seed propagation

Many flower growers are interested in growing this or that variety of geranium from seeds on their own.

In this case, you can use both your own seeds, obtained from your own plant, and purchased ones.

It should be noted that hybrid varieties of geraniums grown from their own seeds do not possess the properties of the parent plant.

To preserve the desired traits, they must be propagated only vegetatively.

Before planting, you need to prepare your own seeds: carry out the so-called scarification.

The fact is that the shell of geranium seeds is extremely tough and dense. Such seeds, planted unchanged, will not germinate for a long time. Some of the seeds can lie in the ground for 3 months before germinating.

To ensure quick and friendly shoots, geranium seeds are gently rubbed between two sheets of fine-grained sandpaper. After scarification, you can plant the seeds in the ground. Friendly shoots will appear in 2 - 3 weeks. Purchased seeds do not need to be scarified.

How to prepare the soil for germination and what to do next?

You can prepare the soil for germination yourself.

To do this, you need to mix turf, sand and peat in a 2: 1: 1 ratio.

From above, after planting, the surface should be sprinkled with fine sand, moisten it with a spray bottle.

Cover the planting with glass, put it in a room (it can be dark) with a temperature of 18-20 ° C.

To eliminate condensation on the glass, it is removed daily and the soil is ventilated.

After the appearance of the first shoots, the box with the plantings is transferred to a bright room, the glass is removed and the temperature is lowered to 16 - 20 ° C.

After about a month and a half, 2-3 leaves are formed on young stems. It is at this moment that it is time to transplant small geraniums into individual pots, deepening to the same level at which they grew before.

Which is better, seeds or vegetative propagation? Summing up, it should be said that for the propagation of geranium flowers at home, by far the most suitable method is grafting or dividing the bush. Seedlings are more capricious, young seedlings often get sick with a "black leg", such reproduction does not ensure the preservation of hybrid properties. At the same time, if you have quality seeds, you can grow the desired geranium varieties yourself. Every indoor plant lover chooses what interests him.

1. Introduction

If I was asked "What does a hobby mean to me?" I would say a hobby is not just a hobby, but a serious occupation.

My hobby is flower cultivation. I love flowers since childhood, I will never part with them. When I grow up, I will have my own house and my own large garden. At home and in the garden there will be many different colors. I will look after them myself.

Although it is winter in the yard, and at home I have beautiful indoor plants. Plants not only delight our eyes, they enrich the room of the house with oxygen. Among indoor plants, I really like geranium. Maybe because in the house, on almost every windowsill, geraniums of various colors grow and smell.

The theme of my work was born from a practical problem taken from the textbook “We and the World Around”, grade 3, where students are invited to conduct an experiment with planting and growing indoor plants.

2. Main part

2.1. Medicinal plant geranium

The purpose of the research work growing indoor plants.

  • read about geraniums in the encyclopedia;
  • study the medicinal properties of geranium;
  • explore ways of breeding geraniums.

I want to tell you about the amazing beauty and useful properties of this flower.

South Africa is considered the birthplace of geranium, from there at the beginning of the 17th century sailors brought this plant to Europe. It is from this moment that the history of breeding new varieties of geraniums, these beautiful flowers, begins. For a long time it was considered an aristocratic plant; it was bred in the greenhouses of rich mansions. In England, France, USA, Australia, a society of geranium lovers is organized, which organizes exhibitions. In Russia, geranium became widespread in the 19th century. It is known that in the Moscow greenhouse of the Alexander Garden, about 30 species of South American geraniums were grown.

Let's turn to the dictionary: Geranium (Latin Geranium) from the Greek word (geranos) - crane. Therefore, geranium is also called a crane. Because geranium seeds are like the beak of a crane.

Geranium is also called pelargonium in another way. Pelargonium (Latin Pelargonium) from the Greek word (pelardjs) - stork.

The encyclopedia says that geranium is the main genus of the geranium family. Pelargonium is a genus of plants from the geranium family.

There are more than 200 types of geraniums in the world. There are three main varieties of geraniums: large-flowered, ivy, zonal.

All types of pelargonium that are grown in the house are united by one name - indoor geranium. The closest relative of room geranium is its wild relatives - this is the common geranium, which grows like a weed in vegetable gardens, and meadow geranium, which grows in glades.

They are distinguished by their color: with white flowers, blood-red flowers, blue geraniums. The main advantage of geraniums is a wonderful variety of colors. Flowers always look beautiful, but in different ways.

Even in ancient times, geranium was considered a medicinal plant.

If you do not know that geranium is medicinal, it will still heal you from afar. The fact is that it releases special substances into the air that kill various microbes, both in the air and inside our body when these substances are exhaled. Geranium is also widely used as an external topical agent.

2.2. Geranium recipes

There are such a great variety of diseases that are treated with geranium:

Use geranium at the onset of a cold, and for nasal congestion, drip three drops of juice from geranium leaves.

To normalize blood pressure, apply a geranium leaf to your wrists (where the pulse is).

For back pain, crushed geranium leaves, applied with a compress overnight, help.

To relieve a toothache, you need to hold a geranium leaf on your cheek.

Apply a geranium leaf to your forehead to relieve headaches.

For otitis media, put a geranium leaf in your ear by kneading it with your fingers.

For cuts and wounds, apply geranium leaves or flowers to the affected area to heal.

Geranium oil helps with depression, improves mood, increases mental alertness, lowers blood sugar, eliminates skin rashes and more.

To cleanse the lungs, place geraniums daily on the table at a distance of 15-20 cm from your face and slowly inhale and exhale the air, feeling the smell of the plant. Thanks to this pleasant procedure, not only the lungs are cleansed, but stress is relieved, the nervous system returns to normal, and the body's defenses are strengthened.

2.3. Growing plants

In the lesson of the world around us, they explained to us that indoor plants reproduce by cuttings and seeds. I wanted to make sure of this:

She cut off a twig and cut the stalk slightly obliquely;

She left 2-3 upper leaves, removed the lower leaves;

Preparing a glass of potting soil;

I made an incision at the bottom of the glass so that excess water could flow out;

I filled the container with potting soil;

Gave top dressing (solution of mineral fertilizers);

After that, she planted cuttings in this container and moistened the soil;

After 3 weeks, the cuttings took root.

It turns out that geraniums are not whimsical, they easily propagate by cuttings.

3. Conclusion

When working on this research work, I studied reference literature on the medicinal properties of geranium.

For myself, I outlined further prospects for work - this is the cultivation of some species of this plant at home.

I will give flowers to my friends, share with them the experience of growing and knowledge of the healing properties of geraniums.

Geranium (translated from Greek - "crane") is a common abbreviated name for pelargonium - perennial flowers that resemble noble roses. This is a very popular houseplant, the number of which in the home collections of amateur gardeners is fabulously high compared to other types of flowers. It gained its wide popularity back in the 19th century in the European country of England, where noble women walked with its fragrant bouquet in their hands. This is all thanks to the incredibly dazzling bloom and the enchantingly fragrant scent of the flower emanating from its brightly colored inflorescences containing essential oils that invigorate and positively affect all household members; and also - easy care. By the way, it must necessarily include the timely reproduction of geraniums by cuttings, because if this is not done every few years, it will grow very ugly, stretch out and practically cease to delight with flowers.

This method is very easy and effective to use and, in my opinion, will be much easier than sowing new geranium seeds, the expectation of the result from which will take much longer. How you need to cut geraniums will be discussed below.

  • 1 General rules for grafting
  • 2 Preparation of cuttings
  • 3 Landing
  • 4 Rooting
    • 4.1 Video "Propagation of geranium by cuttings"

General rules for grafting

So, let's start a home gardening lesson with the aim of propagating the desired geranium.

I carry out vegetative renewal of pelargonium once every 2-3 years by cutting geraniums. I take a stalk of this flower in the period when winter is almost over (the last decade of February) or from the first month of spring to the beginning of autumn. But you can also later - from August to October. This is the most optimal and favorable time for propagation by cuttings, the time contributing to the intensive growth, development and flowering of your favorite home plant.

Planting geraniums in March will bloom in mid-summer. Indeed, it is in the spring that the juice actively moves, which affects the imminent appearance of the fruits of labor. But later cultivation will be delayed a couple of times, so that geranium will be able to bloom only next year.

I draw your attention to the length of the cutting of this flower: for mini-plants it is 2.5 cm, and for ordinary plants - 5 cm. I stock up for future work with plastic or paper cups, which I make myself from bottles, and buy ready-made ones. In order for the reproduction of geraniums to happen really correctly and flawlessly, I pour one third of the sand into the soil.

I remember that the rooting of geraniums is much more effective when I pour the ground with a non-weak potassium permanganate liquid or an alternative - boiling water. This manipulation destroys all unnecessary bacteria and organisms that can harm the flower.

To propagate the flower in question, it is worth acting differently than with other representatives of the garden flora. I do not cover the geranium with anything, so as not to damage the cuttings. I irrigate infrequently and abundantly.

Preparing cuttings

To start grafting geraniums, I take a sharpened tool - a knife, and disinfect it with medical alcohol. Then I carefully cut off the stalk (shoot from the top) 5-7 cm long, on which there are 3 vivacious leaves, at an angle of 90 degrees relative to the stem. Compliance with such rules is necessary for the successful acceptance and strengthening of the cuttings in the ground, as well as the reliable durability of the flower on the stem. In no case do I leave the arrows of flowers and buds, because they can interfere with the high-quality launching of roots.

I put each obtained cutting of geranium for a couple of hours where the rays of the sun will not fall on them. I expect them to dry out and wither. This will become noticeable by the newly formed film on the flower. When I see that it’s time, I sprinkle them with Kornevin, and if there’s no such thing at hand, then coal dust.

Taking the cups prepared in advance, I make holes-holes in their bottom so that the water can drain and the earth can breathe. I fill them with wet (as indicated above - poured with boiling water or potassium permanganate) universal soil with a mixture of vermiculite and sand.

To plant flowers, I stick a stalk for a couple of centimeters in a glass that is not hot in the ground, freed from the leaves unnecessary below. I put it first in a place where it is dark. And after 3-4 days, when, probably, the plants are slightly wiggled, I put them on the window, but so that the sun still does not shine on them. I keep the air temperature at 15 degrees Celsius. With the help of watering through the pallet, I provide moisture with moisture, remembering the simple rule that water should not get on the leaves of the flower.

I do not cover cuttings. Only in the case of lethargic or yellowed leaves do I put the plant under the cover of the jar so that it comes to life in a few days in such a homemade greenhouse environment.

Rooting

To find out in the past few weeks whether the geranium has taken root, I peer into a transparent plastic glass, through the thin walls of which the newly formed roots should be clearly visible. Another elementary and understandable even for teapots way to find out whether a previously planted plant was able to take root is the rapid formation of young green leaves on it.

Depending on which type of geranium I am reproducing, I take into account the different duration of strengthening the roots. For example, royal geraniums should be expected up to four weeks, ivy and zonal geraniums - within two, but fragrant geraniums - the longest: as much as six.

I'm waiting for the geranium to bloom. It directly depends on the variety of this flower. For example, "zonalka" will reveal their luxurious nature somewhere in 2-3 months. The fragrant appearance of pelargonium is an unpredictable phenomenon, since not in outdoor conditions such plants are overly whimsical. Angels and Queens are slower flower ladies who will be able to reveal their beauty about a year after disembarkation.

Thus, following the accessible and understandable step-by-step instructions, feel free to take on cutting, planting and growing the most beautiful flowers that grow in your usual home conditions: on window sills, balconies, and so on. Do not be afraid of anything! Go for it! Surprise! Experiment with these wonderful flowers! The heavenly pleasure of admiring the resulting colorful decorations for your premises will surpass all possible expectations! Trust my experience in growing geraniums!

Geranium - houseplant

There is no more popular houseplant than geranium. Loved all over the world. The geranium flower is one of those plants that combine a lot of advantages. It can be both indoor and garden flowers at the same time.

Homeland - South America

Specialists - botanists have more than 250 species of geraniums. All geraniums are divided into 2 groups: fragrant and flowering (4 slide). Their difference is that blooming ones, as the name implies, have very beautiful flowers. But the flowers of fragrant pelargonium are inconspicuous, but the leaves have a unique very bright aroma (slide).

There are many types of geraniums, and everyone smells differently. The smell that some specimens emit is quite unpleasant. Fragrant indoor geraniums are among the most fragrant plants. That geranium doesn't smell like flowers, but leaves (slide).

But it is with the smell that the beneficial effects of geranium on health are associated. After all, the leaves secrete special phytoncides that kill pathogens and purify the air. For many people, the smell of geranium helps to relax and relieve fatigue. Calms the nervous system, and really ionizes the air. The scent of geranium is useful to inhale after a stroke (slide).

Geranium is a southern flower, she loves the sun very much. In winter, she should stand in the brightest place in the house. In the summer, it must be planted in the ground. It grows well at a temperature of about 20 degrees. Protect the flower from drafts, otherwise it may get sick. Watering is not too abundant, but constantly.

As far as I remember, my mom transplanted geraniums every year. You can transplant geraniums to another lawn. Mom bought soil for geraniums in a store .. It is loose, light, but fertile soil (slide).

We propagated geraniums at home with stem cuttings. Can be planted directly into the ground. Can be a little into the water. Geranium cuttings can be planted directly into the pot after cutting. Geranium can be propagated by seed. Geranium is used to repel insects.

Among indoor plants, I really like geranium. Maybe because geranium grows on every windowsill in the house - white, pink, red (slide).

I really liked the smell of its leaves. After stories about the healing properties, I became interested in geraniums in more detail. Geranium is a perennial, so it is quite suitable for indoor cultivation. Depending on the species, it is a herbaceous or semi-shrub plant.

Unfortunately, I have no personal experience, but I know an interesting way to use the leaves of scented geranium. They are eaten as a condiment. Geranium leaves are used to flavor rooms, wardrobes, linen. Geranium essential oil is considered one of the most medicinal. It is used to treat flu, cough and other respiratory ailments.

There are 29 students in our 1 grade. I asked who is growing geraniums in the house. Out of 29 families, 18 are raised. Red - 15, white - 12, pink - 11. Three colors - 8, 2 colors - 10, one color - 6.

I conducted a survey among my classmates.

Question: Have you used geranium leaves for treatment?

3 1. Introduction Since time immemorial, people have used plants not only in the household, but also to decorate the interior. This tradition is characteristic of all peoples and manifests itself as one of the elements of the culture of mankind as a whole. Another, distinct from purely aesthetic, function of plants has long been known. Even in ancient times, people noticed that some plants have a beneficial effect on indoor air quality, purifying and flavoring it. Modern interior designers also use plants not only to decorate rooms, but also to heal the air in them. I really like various indoor flowers, but geranium blooms and smells especially beautifully. We constantly plant it with my mother and grandmother in the spring, and in the summer it pleases with its lush flowering in flowerpots on the street. And I became interested to learn more about this plant. The topic of my work is aimed at studying this beautiful plant. Purpose of work: To study the properties of the geranium plant. Tasks: Determine where and how geraniums appeared in our country. Find out the meaning of geranium for humans. Find out how geranium is used by humans. Grow new geranium plants. Identify the most favorable breeding method for geraniums. Subject of research: geranium Object of research: healing properties of geranium and their effect on the human body and on the environment. Research hypothesis: if we know the healing properties of geranium, we can properly use it to improve health and improve the ecological state of the room. Research methods: Analysis, survey, observation, description, collection of information, experiment. The practical significance of the work: Today in pharmacies there are a huge number of different collections and synthetic drugs, but it’s better if the population uses plants with the richest content of biologically active substances as a basis for treating ailments. Using the knowledge about geranium, this plant can be widely used as a medicinal plant to improve health and purify the indoor air from bacteria in order to prevent colds. 3

4 2.1 Historical Did you know that the familiar geranium growing on almost every windowsill was introduced to Europe from distant Africa in the 17th century? And the South African geranium received a new name - pelargonium. However, due to habits, it is still called garden geranium. Geranium got its name from the Greek word "geranios" - crane. And the word "pelargonium" comes from the word "pelargos", which means "stork". These appointments are explained by an interesting feature in the structure of flowers: when they fade and the petals crumble, fruitlets are formed, very similar to a beak (by the way, the popular name of geranium is "crane nose"). [9] When these flowers were still a novelty, they became fashionable in high society, were grown in the gardens of wealthy nobles, and were considered an aristocratic plant. In Russia, it became widespread in the 19th century, but already at the beginning of the 20th century, it dropped out of sight of flower growers and received the offensive nickname "bourgeois flower". As a result, in our country, the species and varietal composition of this group of plants is poor. But in vain. Experience shows that pelargoniums are indispensable in flower decoration, since they are distinguished by abundant and long flowering, spectacular inflorescences, and are valued for their unpretentiousness. In the 19th century, a huge number of pelargonium varieties were obtained, differing in the size and color of flowers, and the shape of the leaves. In England, France, USA, Australia, there are societies of lovers of pelargonium organized, which annually organize exhibitions. The firm "Pelargonium Fischer" (Germany) opened a museum in 1978, which displays about 150 wild species and 1200 varieties. 4

5 2.2 Geranium at school and at home Indoor pelargonium is usually divided into 4 large species. The first (zonal) includes plants with characteristic rounded leaves. They have simple or double flowers of a wide variety of shades. This is the widespread "grandmother's" geranium. The second type (royal) is distinguished by larger flowers, slightly resembling orchids. Usually the two upper petals are larger and brighter in color. The leaves are jagged at the edges, a bit like maple leaves. The third species is ivy pelargonium. They can be recognized by their dense leathery leaves and drooping shoots that form numerous inflorescences of various colors. The fourth type (fragrant) is fragrant pelargonium. Plants of this species have strongly drooping, dissected leaves with a very characteristic odor. There are varieties with the smell of rose, lemon, mint. Whatever species pelargonium belongs to, it needs a lot of sun. She does not like excessive dampness. She does not need too large pots with nutritious soil, otherwise the plant will produce more leaves to the detriment of flowering. Conclusion: Having studied the types of geraniums, I found out that in our school you can find 3 types: royal, zonal and fragrant. Houses are zoned and fragrant. 5

6 2. 3 Ancient beliefs According to beliefs, fragrant flower leaves protect from the evil eye, bad influence, and give health and strength. Once the girls gave their chosen one a bunch of wild geraniums as a sign of love. The red color also has magical powers that fight against troubles and troubles. In the East, there is a tradition to display pots of white geraniums at the entrance to the house. This is due to the ancient belief that snakes are afraid of the places where this plant blooms. And the ancient Slavs believed that if you put the petals of this flower in a linen bag and carry it with you all the time, you can attract the attention of a loved one. 6

7 2.4 Culinary Secrets My grandmother says that the jam won't spoil if you put a geranium leaf under the lid on top. Our great-grandmothers did so, not knowing the explanation. I decided to check it out. I put fresh fruit in jars at the window. March 12, 2017 March 16, 2017 Geranium leaves were put in one jar, but not in the other. In a jar with geranium leaves, the fruit began to deteriorate 3 days later. I did the same with the egg. I put 1 boiled egg in 3 jars. I did not add anything else to sample 1, to sample 2 I added a leaf of zonal geranium, to sample 3 a leaf of fragrant geranium. Table 1. Observations of the rotting process of a chicken egg Date Experimental jar with a fragrant leaf Placed a peeled egg. Put a leaf on the bottom of the jar. The egg remains white. The egg remains white. The egg remains white. The egg turns yellow even more, spots of decay have appeared. Experimental jar with a leaf of zonal geranium. Put a leaf on the bottom of the jar. The egg remains white. The egg begins to turn yellow. The egg turns yellow. The egg turns yellow even more, spots of decay have appeared. Experimental jar without geranium. The egg begins to turn yellow Large spots of decay appear on the egg Signs of egg decay appear The egg is dark orange in color, covered with mold, has changed its shape. Conclusions. The purity of the air, the destruction of microbes in it helps in the fight against infectious diseases, pathogens of which are transmitted by airborne droplets. The indoor air environment is far from ideal. In addition to dust, there are many bacteria in the air. You can significantly improve the air environment by using geranium plants for landscaping. Geranium is also a good prophylactic against colds. To verify these findings, I consulted my dad. He is a medical professional. He confirmed and said that there is even a geranium-based drug for the common cold and flu. 7

8 2. 5 Aibolit Why, in the working environment, the modest geranium is often preferred to all other colors? It turns out that earlier, when ordinary people, especially artisans, lived in black basements, they believed in the healing power of geraniums. These leaves seemed to suck in the poisonous air of the workshops, waste and dampness. For this geranium was loved. Florists noticed not only the decorative qualities of pelargoniums, but also their healing ability. After all, pelargonium is able to calm the nervous system, normalize sleep, and reduce fatigue. A leaf of a non-blooming geranium with carved leaves is a living first aid kit, first aid. Man uses geranium in different ways. A leaf of a non-blooming geranium with carved leaves is a living first aid kit, first aid. If you have a cold in your ear, roll up the sheet with a tube and insert it into the ear canal. You will feel warmth and relief quickly. If you don’t believe it, then try it. A decoction of geranium leaves is used as a gargle to treat the throat for colds. A geranium leaf is great for toothache, if you put it on the cheek or press it against the gum. The leaf juice of this plant was used in East Africa as a lotion for sore eyes. If you suffer from insomnia, then place geraniums in the bedroom and it will help normalize sleep. In case of baldness, the following mixture of herbs is used to strengthen hair: Pelargonium herb 1 part; nettle leaves 1 part. Pour 4 tablespoons of the mixture with 1 liter of boiling water, leave for 30 minutes and wash your hair every other day. In South Africa, crushed leaves were applied to the skin to treat minor burns, and a decoction of the leaves and twigs was used for inhalation for colds and coughs. Geranium preparations have an astringent, hemostatic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic effect. Most often, pelargonium leaves are used for the manufacture of medicines, although in folk medicine geranium rhizomes are used for various external and internal bleeding, gastritis, bronchitis. eight

9 2.6 Gardening Secrets Some people put geranium pots under currant bushes. They say that the currants are less sick, and the geranium itself, "washed" by the summer rain, blooms. Why this is happening, I will definitely find out and tell you next time. It is not uncommon for a fragrant geranium to be placed next to a flower infected with aphids. It is known that if pelargonium grows in the garden, then there are no aphids on gladioli, asters and other flower crops. 9

10 2.7 Identification of the most favorable breeding method for geraniums. In order to grow new geranium plants, I studied geranium propagation methods. And he set up an experiment. For the experiment, I took shoots of pelargonium. Cut cuttings 1) planted in the soil and covered with polyethylene; 2) planted in the soil, with the addition of activated carbon and covered with polyethylene; 3) put it in a transparent glass with settled tap water; 4) put it in a transparent glass with settled tap water, with the addition of activated carbon; I also tried without the first method of growing geraniums, dropping 1) a flower leaf into water (Fig. 1) 2) a geranium leaf into the soil and covered it with polyethylene (Fig. 2) (Fig. 1) (Fig. 2) But after a week I made sure that propagation by a leaf is impossible for geraniums. (Fig. 3, Fig. 4) (Fig. 3) (Fig. 4) I entered my observations in the table Table 1. Rooting of pelargonium in different variants Results Results Results Results variant after 7 days after 10 days after 14 days On the 7th day there were roots with a length of 1. Planting in visible roots about 0.5 mm. soil and bumps. have satisfactorily closed the rating. polyethylene satisfactory Results after 2 months of young plants are good (Fig. 9) 10

12 (Fig. 9) (Fig. 10) (Fig. 11) (Fig. 12) Thus, the following conclusions can be drawn: - The best results were shown by option 2, leaf blades developed rapidly. According to our assumptions, this is due to the fact that the roots have access to oxygen, and besides, the flowerpot was covered with cellophane on top and this prevented excessive evaporation of water. - Option 1 gave good results. But here the formation of the root system proceeded a little slower due to the fact that the soil is denser, the roots are several millimeters smaller. - The worst performance was in option 3 with tap water. - Option 4 also showed not very good results. 12

13 3. Conclusions Having a few flowering geranium bushes, you can create a healing corner. It can be used for landscaping balconies, loggias, stairs. 1. From literary sources, I got acquainted with the homeland of geraniums. 2. Learned about the medicinal properties of geranium. 3. Experiments on rooting have shown that for fast rooting, it is better to put activated carbon in the ground and cover with cellophane. 4. Gave recommendations to amateur flower growers 5. For myself, I planned further breeding of some species of this plant 13

14 4. Recommendations Geranium can be used for landscaping balconies, stairs, rooms. With a few geranium bushes in bloom, you can create a healing corner. If you decide to breed this plant yourself, then you must comply with a number of requirements: 1) it is better to take apical, sufficiently developed shoots; 2) put the earth in a glass, add a few tablets of activated carbon, plant a stalk in it and cover everything with cellophane. As a result, you do not have to constantly add water and due to the high humidity inside this chamber, the roots will appear earlier and the leaf blades will develop well. 14
