In this regard, the organization of library and bibliographic education for teachers, students, and pupils is of particular importance. These guidelines will help in mastering new knowledge of the information and library space.
Making a bibliographic list of used literature is an obligatory element of scientific work.
Bibliographic description of the document
A bibliographic description is the process and result of the addition, according to certain rules, of a list of information about a document that identifies this document and allows you to find it among many others.
Description of documents is carried out in accordance with GOST. The bibliography must comply GOST 7.1: 2006. “Bibliographic record. Bibliographic description. General requirements and rules of drawing up ".
Abbreviations in document description
Words and phrases are also abbreviated in accordance with GOST. When compiling a bibliographic list in the title of the description, the first three words cannot be abbreviated. If the name is very long, then part of it can be skipped, denoting the gap with ellipsis.

Spelling in bibliography
The bibliographic list is compiled according to modern spelling. The first word of each defined area should begin with a capital letter. Also, all titles in all areas and the first word of the general material designation should be capitalized. The rest of the description elements are written with a lowercase letter, for example: Physics [Electronic resource]: textbook / ed. K. Yakovleva.
Punctuation in bibliography
Punctuation in bibliographic descriptions is used as separating familiar grammatical marks and prescribed punctuation marks. Recommended punctuation (conventional punctuation marks) helps you recognize specific items in bibliographic descriptions.
Numbers in bibliographic description
Numbers in the bibliography are written in the form (Roman, Arabic, verbal form) in which they are written in the publication. However, numbers that indicate volume, issue, part, number, page should be written in Arabic numerals: Issue one; in 5 volumes; T. 2; h. 5; With. 12-16; 241 s. Also, Arabic numbers should be replaced when indicating the number of classes, courses of educational institutions; serial numbers of publications; year or dates of issue, distribution of the document. Ordinal numbers are written with the ending: 3rd ed .; 2nd year.
How to arrange a bibliographic list?
There are such ways to group material in bibliography:
- alphabetical;
- systematic;
- chronological;
- numbering;
- by sections of work.
The most common ways are:
- Numbered - the material is arranged in the order of mentioning the literature in the text and citing.
- Alphabetical - in the alphabet of the names of the authors and titles of works. The works of one author are arranged alphabetically by title or in the chronology of their writing.
Link
When writing a dissertation, term paper or thesis in the text in the link to the publication included in the bibliographic list, it is necessary to indicate the number under which this publication appears in the list, in square brackets. For instance:

Most often in scientific works, alphabetical grouping is used, that is, when bibliographic records are arranged according to the alphabetical order of the names of authors and titles of works (if the author is not listed or there are more than three authors):
- placement of bibliographic records when the first word of the name coincides - in alphabetical order of the letters of the second word, etc .;
- placement of works by one author - in alphabetical order of the letters of the first word of the title of individual works;
- placement of works of authors with the same surnames - in alphabetical order of the authors' initials;
- if the surnames and initials of the authors coincide - in the alphabetical order of the works.
When placing bibliographic records in different languages:
- first, according to the Russian alphabet or the language with the Cyrillic alphabet;
- then, in the order of the Latin alphabet, literature in foreign languages.
The correct bibliographic list contains descriptions of the sources used and is placed at the end of the work. List pages, like other text pages, are numbered. The numbering is continuous, continues the numbering of the pages of the text.
The name "Bibliographic list" is used .

Bibliographic description for a book or any other document is drawn up according to certain rules. It contains bibliographic information about a document, given in a specific order, to identify the document and give its general characteristics.
Brief outline of bibliographic description can be schematically represented as follows:
Description title. Main Title: Title Related Information / Statement of Liability. Edition information. Output. Volume.
Depending on the structure of the description, a distinction is made between:
single-level bibliographic description- this is a description of one separately taken (one-part) document (monograph, textbook, reference book, collection of articles, archival document, etc.);
tiered bibliographic description- This is a description of a multi-part document (multi-volume edition);
analytical bibliographic description Is a description of a part of a document (an article from a periodical or collection).
When compiling a bibliographic description, in order to ensure its compactness, abbreviations of words and phrases can be used, part of the elements is omitted, and various records can be combined into one bibliographic record.
The main condition for the reduction of words is the unambiguity of their understanding and the provision of decoding of the abbreviated words. You should not abbreviate words in cases where this can distort or make the meaning of the description text obscure, make it difficult to understand.
The unified forms of abbreviations used in individual provisions are given in Russian or Latin:
other (et alii) - and others (et al.); and so on (et catera) - etc. (etc.); that is (id est) - i.e. (i. e.); without space (sine loco) - b.m. (s. l.); no publisher (sine nomine) - b.i. (s. n.)
