modifications

Mods, also called addons or UI (user interface) modifications, are collections of program code and graphics that can be integrated into your World of Warcraft client for various purposes, such as changing the style of the user interface, changing the way information is presented, or otherwise interaction with the game. Modifications are created by ordinary players who want to customize something to their needs or optimize the gameplay. Most often, players use addons that allow them to change the layout of user interface elements (such as portrait frames, minimap and control panels) or show useful information

, for example, the amount of damage or health healed in a raid or dungeon. The fact that so many players have fun creating addons will allow you to be more likely to find a suitable mod for almost any whim. And if you don’t find it, there is always the opportunity to try to create it yourself (of course, for this you need to more or less understand programming).

While we work hard to ensure that the World of Warcraft user interface contains everything you need to play the game, some players find the use of addons quite useful. Some people use only one or two modifications, while for others even a couple of dozen are not enough!

If you have not yet worked with any modification for World of Warcraft, we advise you to read the topic on installing modifications on our forum, which is led by players. You can discuss modifications, learn how to create them, or ask for help from other players in the forum section dedicated to the interface and macros. And if you want to create your own modification, be sure to first read the thread on Blizzard's policy regarding the development of UI modifications

Poll: Addons – your opinion

Some people use mods to change the user interface of the game. Players with an analytical mind use them to analyze game data or for calculations. Those who strive to optimize game performance install addons that make it easier to use other addons. And, of course, there are those who don’t bother with them at all.

This week's question is: "What do you use modifications for?"

We continue the topic of customizing the interface in World of Warcraft. We have already discussed, now the series of button panels. In general, there are quite a lot of addons for modifying button panels, and it’s a matter of personal preference. I use Bartender4, and I advise you to do the same.

Download Bartender4 (there is a Russian version) and unpack it into the folder:

World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns\

After installing and launching the game you will get this mess:

To open the settings window, enter the command /bt4 into the chat

Uncheck the "Lock" option and then you can move the panels:

We arrange the panels according to plan. This is again a matter of preference, you can move the chat down and the buttons in the center as a block or try another option.

If necessary, change the scale. Some may like smaller buttons, and you can also make the secondary panels smaller.

Sometimes you may need to reduce the number of buttons to avoid spaces and empty spaces. Everything is set in the settings.

Don't forget about the pet panel, even if you don't have a pet. In many quests you will be given a pet that you will need to control. The transport panel is also needed.

Panels not filled with buttons will be transparent and clicks will pass through them. Therefore, do not be afraid to leave extra panels, leave room for quest items, it’s more convenient.

You can also configure the change of panels when changing racks. The main panel will change anyway, but you can make this option for additional panels.

Also look at the advanced options, there are also a lot of useful things there. You also probably noticed that you can assign keyboard shortcuts to any panels and any keys. This can be very convenient, because some classes lack standard hotkeys.

After these steps, the interface should become more convenient for you and should not take up much space on the screen.

In the following guides we will add more information to the interface and set up a raid frame.

And the client, you can customize the game. Setting up WoW is not a mandatory step, but by setting it up, you can improve the game's performance and make it more comfortable. So that you don’t rack your brains when answering the question, I have prepared an approximate setup diagram. Depending on the power of your computer and personal preferences, you can follow the advice or ignore it.

1. Setting up graphics in WoW

The setup should start with graphics. It is better to set the resolution to 1280*1024 or higher. The fact is that at low resolution it is very difficult to play, the text becomes small. In addition, resolution has a fairly small impact on fps (frames per second).

But it’s worth playing around with textures and shadows. High-quality textures and shadows greatly reduce fps. It is quite possible to do without them. Textures can be set to 16-bit instead of 32. I generally recommend turning off shadows, since playing on an average machine with shadows turned on in a crowd is simply impossible. It is better to leave the level of detail of spells at medium level. With a low level of detail, it is extremely difficult to notice special spells. You can die in a cloud of poisonous gas simply because you didn't see it. Of course, this reduces the frame rate, but we compensate for this with other indicators.

It's best to leave the "project textures" checkbox enabled. Spells such as Rain of Fire leave a circle on the ground indicating the range. If the texture projection checkbox is turned off, you simply won’t see this circle; you’ll have to look closely to determine where the radius of the ability ends. The drawing distance can be set to a minimum. You don't need to look far to play or watch, and there's no such thing as too much FPS. The remaining indicators can be set to your taste.

2. Sound settings

Enable voice chat. If you are going to go to, you will need it. Turn off automatic voice activation of the microphone. Set hotkey so you can speak into the microphone. If you like to listen to music, you can do a trick: turn off the game music and turn down the volume in WoW. I have tested it myself that quiet sound does not drown out the music, but allows you to hear all the necessary and interesting information– speech, warnings from addons, and so on. Sound quality does not have a noticeable impact on game performance.

3. Addon settings

The best way tailor the game to suit you. Each addon is configured separately; you can find configuration tips on the pages dedicated to addons. But general advice is as follows: check the “Use outdated modifications” checkbox. Some addons have not been updated for a long time, but continue to function properly. Without this checkbox they simply will not work.

Do you still have questions about how to set up the client for the game? Then write in the comments and I will try to help you!

The standard game interface in Blizzard's WoW is simple and awkward. Many players encounter this problem, it can be expressed in different ways. But also, players who decide to change the standard interface to suit themselves are faced with another problem - where to start and what should the interface be like?

First you need to figure out what the interface should be. First of all, convenient, secondly, informative, thirdly (but not obligatory) - beautiful. It's no secret that the standard interface is not suitable for raids or PvP - it is not convenient to track various effects, monitor the group or track various abilities.

For convenience, you can pick up a piece of paper and a pencil, then try to imagine what an interface that is convenient for you should look like, then draw it on paper, but rather not draw, but make schematic sketches. Here are panels with damaging abilities to one target, here is AoE, here are bags, there is a map, here is where the necessary effects will appear and the like. This will be the plan of what you are going to do. Difficult? Then you can cut abilities from screenshots and other panels, then place them in Paint and see what happens.

The next step will be to search and download the necessary addons. They are usually searched for on Curse. An advantage is that if you register on the site, you can download a special client. What is the client for? It’s simple and convenient, when the next addition to WoW comes out, all your addons will become outdated, it will take a long time to update each one manually, and by logging into the client you will update all your addons in a couple of clicks. The second advantage is that the site provides various modifications not only for WoW. Well, other advantages will no longer be interesting to you.

It is worth noting that you do not need to download all the addons in a row and install them. If you do this, then when you enter the game you will most likely find natural minced meat. Addons should be downloaded one at a time, then remove unnecessary additions to the addon, install the remaining ones, go into the game and configure them. If you install additional addons you don’t need from the addon you need, your list of modifications will become outrageously large and inconvenient.

How to install the addon? First you need to download it, then remove it from the archive, sift out everything unnecessary, leave only the addon and the necessary additions to it, then find your folder with WoW and follow the path World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns, then move the addon there, then go to game and in the character menu, click the “Modifications” button, select a character from the list and check the boxes which addons to connect to him, then go into the game and configure the addon. Addons are removed using the same method, but you don’t need to reset its settings, just go to the World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns folder and delete the addon folders from there.

If you need to disable the addon, just open the menu in the game and uncheck the box in the modifications, then click “Apply”.

At the second stage, many people have 1000 questions: “Where? Which? How?". Not every person will have time for you to explain which addons are responsible for what. The Curse website in the addons section for WoW specifically made a sorting of addons for this purpose, although in English. If it’s really difficult, you can use various online translators.

It is important to know that there are many modifications and their analogues, so all of the following are not the only addons. There are many others that will suit you - you’ll have to think for yourself, now you can even find a video guide for each addon, or in text format, don’t be scared in English- an online translator is always at hand.

Have you drawn the interface? Now you need to clear/move the standard panels on the screen - these are the panels on which your abilities, chat, menu bar, bags, radar, character portrait, portrait of your target, and so on are located. The Dominos addon with its additions can help us with this. The addon allows you to move any panels anywhere, reduce or increase the number of panels with abilities, reduce the size of panels, move chat, radar, cast bars, increase the distance between buttons (or reduce them), etc. This first addon can help you create a convenient location and size of panels, and their number.

It is very important to place the panels so that all of your abilities, character portraits, and your goal are located in one area. And also leave room for effects. Firstly, this way they take up less space on the screen, secondly, it is much more convenient, especially if you click on any abilities with the mouse, and thirdly, it is convenient to monitor the rollback status of abilities, monitor the target, the character. All this is in one place, you don’t have to strain your eyes and constantly move your gaze.

You have already arranged the panels in a convenient way. Next, you should pay attention to the panels of a raid group or a regular one. The standard WoW interface allows for some customization, but it is not ideal for most players - it takes up too much space and does not track any raid effects. The problem can be solved using the Grid addon (or for example Healbot Continued), it will allow you to reduce/increase the size of raid frames to the desired size, select the necessary effects that the addon will track, tags on raid frames, etc. Seeing your raid is always important and can tell you a lot during a fight.

Next, let's pay attention to the portrait of your character and the portrait of your goal, and maybe the goal of your goal, etc. Perhaps it is not convenient to look at, or less informative. If this is so, then you can install the PitBull Unit Frames addon, a very complex addon to configure, but the results are very good.

The next step is an addon that helps you track the necessary effects on the character and on the target. The best and most convenient, in my opinion, is Power Auras Classic - the addon is very easy to set up and convenient, and besides, it’s also in Russian. It will help you transfer any effect where necessary, be it a buff or a debuff, on you or on the target, or the target of your target. Not only place it, but also make it the right size, choose a picture and animation, timer or sound. Here, as they say, where the soul lies more.

The next step could be a DBM addon or its analogues (for example, for Big Wigs raiders
may seem more convenient) a good choice, both for raiders and dungeon conquerors, and for those who like to go to battlegrounds. The addon shows in the raid all the abilities and cooldowns of the boss’s abilities, in the BG - how much is left before capturing the point, who took the flag, etc. Easy to set up, allows you to move tracking anywhere, announcements in any color you want and the sound of running out of the void zone, you can set your favorite track (for 3 minutes).

An equally important modification can be Recount or Scada, the modification shows you how much damage you or your participants caused, how much health was restored or damage absorbed.

If you like hunting rare monsters or collecting treasures, Handy Notes will be your choice; if specifically about WoD, then Handy Notes Draenor Treasures. This addon with its addition will show you where all the treasures are buried and where the enemy with the toy appears. Also, an addition to it can be NPC Scan, which will show an icon and put a mark on it if there is a rare monster near you.

Here I will give short list other modifications that may be useful to you:

- Bagnon combines all bags into one, there is also a setting for the bank;
- Master Plan modification was created for the garrison and comrades, it allows you to see more, collect rewards for tasks faster;
- Auctioneer (or Auctionator) for those who spend a lot of time at the auction, you won’t be able to figure it out quickly;
- Tidy Plates changes the appearance of standard enemy stripes, often you can’t click on them the desired strip enemy health and quickly press Tab, then this addon is for you;
- Sexy Map will change the standard radar skin;
- Spell Flash highlights abilities when they are not on CD, a replacement can be its other modifications specifically for classes (example Bittens Spell Flash DK for death knights);
- Button Timers shows the cooldown of abilities in the form of bars on the screen;
- Raid Achievement Do you like to complete achievements in dungeons and raids, but you can’t always track whether the achievement was failed or not? This addon will make your life easier;
- Gladius for arenas and battlegrounds, shows resource and health bars of enemies, effects on them, rollback of trinkets, etc.;
- Epic Music Player love music, here is the addon for you;
- Battleground Targets will help you highlight a target on a BG or RBG;
- Pet Journal Enhanced for lovers of pet fighting;
- and many others.

Also, do not forget that there are many addons that are designed for certain classes or specializations, raid and group roles. It is worth remembering that each add-on must be installed one at a time, unneeded additions must be removed, configured, and only then installed the next one. It’s also worth mentioning that each of your characters (as well as their spec) requires its own interface, so if you set up an interface for your Enhancement shaman, it does not mean at all that it will be suitable for his other specialization, and especially not yours. character.

There are also a bunch of different assemblies that I do not recommend using, the interface is an individual matter, what suits one person may not necessarily suit another, and the range of interests in the game may be different. When the visual part is ready, just in case, write down a list of all the modifications and additions that you use. It's better to do it in the form:

Character 1:
1) Addon 1:
- Addition 1 to addon 1;
- Addition 2 to addon 1;
2) Addon 2;
3) Addon 3;

Character 2:
1) Addon 1:
- Addition 1 to addon 1;
- Addition 2 to addon 1;

2) Addon 2;
3) Addon 3, etc.

This may make your life easier in the future, for example, when you change your PC or reinstall the system, it is better to store the notebook in online resources, for example, in the mail or in in social networks. You can also indicate what this or that modification is responsible for.

The third stage on the path to creating your interface will be macros, binds, and key reassignment. This depends on your keyboard and mouse; many keyboards now have a number of additional programmable buttons, and they can also be located on the mouse. If you find it difficult to figure out how best to reassign keys, you can search for articles on the Internet and watch videos. Perhaps after that you will go to the store for a new monitor, keyboard or processor.

Well, the transition to the last stage is addiction. Don’t think that you will get used to the new interface in a couple of hours, old habits will make themselves known - your eyes are looking in the wrong direction, you press the wrong key. This is the most painful stage after you make your own interface.

Three dangerous enemies will stand in your way, the first boss is “Too lazy to figure it out,” the second is “Fuck it, nothing works” and the third is “I need to farm, not invent interfaces.” The tactic for the first boss is to be patient and have a thermos of coffee, for the second - try another day, for the third there are no tactics - if you don’t want it yourself, no one will do it for you.

The setup begins with graphics. The most optimal screen resolution will be 1280x1024 and higher. This screen size should be set because with a small resolution the text will be less visible, and besides, the resolution has almost no significant effect on .

Next come shadows and textures. Be extremely careful with them, as they reduce quite significantly. Set the textures to 16-bit instead of 32, and turn off shadows completely, because if you have an average computer, then it will not be possible to play with shadows turned on if, for example, you find yourself in a crowd of people.

Set the spell detail level to average level. At a low level of detail, it is very difficult to notice abilities and special spells. Without noticing it, you can die during the game while standing in some cloud that is simply not displayed. Of course, this will reduce the frame rate, but by configuring everything correctly, you will stabilize WoW settings.

Leave a tick above the function " texture projection " This is necessary so that when the Fire Pillar spell is cast, the radius of action is shown on the ground. If the checkbox is turned off, the radius will not be shown and you will have to randomly poke the spell. Also set the range to minimum, because you don’t need to look far to play in a dungeon or arena, but it’s never too much. You can customize the rest to your taste, but it’s better to leave it as is.

Setting up the sound begins with enabling voice chat. If you go on random raids, then you won’t need it, but automatic voice activation of the microphone is certainly not needed. Set a hotkey so you can speak into the microphone.

Also, if you are a fan of listening to music while playing, then turn off the game music and turn down the WoW sounds. A quiet sound will not drown out the music and will allow you to hear everything that is happening around: the sound of battle, remarks, warnings, etc. Sound quality also greatly affects game performance.

Last point Designed for more experienced players. allow you to customize the game to suit your needs and needs. Each needs to be configured separately. You can’t write much here, since there is a huge variety, but I advise you to put a tick above the line “ Use outdated modifications " This is done so that some have been updated, some have not been updated, but still continue to function. This completes the basic setup of the game. I advise you to look into the section and look through modifications that are useful for yourself -.
