How to install LED bulbs. How to properly install h4 led bulbs. LED headlights as additional lighting elements. Exceeding the regulatory values of light output. Illuminated switches

Good afternoon. In today's article, I will tell you everything about LED lamps in headlights, you will find a comparative analysis of LED H4 lamps, a short review of sellers and manufacturers and find out the opinion of the traffic police about such a redesign.

How does an LED lamp differ from a conventional H4 lamp from a layman's point of view.

We will not go deep into technical subtleties and physics, just compare 2 pictures:

H4 halogen and LED bulbs.

Naturally, without a headlamp reflector, the lamp will shine in all directions. Thanks to the reflector, the light gathers in a beam and illuminates the road.

Obviously, the headlamp reflector and lamp are calculated and manufactured very accurately, otherwise the quality of the light will be unsatisfactory.

Thus, when installing a lamp (xenon, halogen) not intended for this particular headlight, the light will not be optimal.

If everything turns out to be relatively accurate- lamps will illuminate the road with sufficient quality and will not blind the drivers of oncoming cars.

An overview of the types of LED bulbs in headlights.

We will agree on the shore - even halogen lamps are not produced in Russia in the headlights. All of them have been brought from China for a long time, so we will not feed greedy intermediaries, we will look directly to the heavenly Empire.

LED lamp, which definitely cannot be bought for a ride in the town:

Lamps of this type will shine anywhere except the road, and since the LEDs are not in focus, the headlights and they do not differ in workmanship.

Such lamps will give only white light, a wide beam, but driving on public roads with such lamps is disrespect for other drivers and your driving license!

When traveling in the woods lamps have a right to exist, since their price is not high, and the headlight glass does not heat up, so there is no risk that it will crack when water gets in.

LED lamps that "can" be installed in the headlights:

Let's clarify one point - lamps of this type will shine relatively correctly, but as expected, they will not shine, since the lens is out of focus and there will be no clear border!

How should the headlights shine:

If you set up such lamps well- they will shine, and will not attract the attention of the traffic police, but this is not respect for other road users, without a clear border you will not see the "edge" of your light beam badly, and this "edge" will already blind oncoming drivers!

So either to lower the light under your breath, which makes the whole undertaking meaningless, or to do it according to your mind.

The best choice in terms of lamp quality, luminous intensity and "beam accuracy" I see a lamp like this:

Operated similar ones from May 2016 to December 2017. They shone well and the traffic police did not have any questions!

Here's a short demo video:

You can buy these lamps here (directly in China).

No need to buy lamps for $ 10-20, this is throwing away money - good things are never cheap!

I gave up the use of such lamps, since I need rights to work, and on the drive I read about a case of deprivation of rights for installation LED lamps in the headlights, although there, the driver himself did not behave correctly, but nerves are dearer to me.

I replaced the standard headlights with LED optics, but I was lucky as the Niva headlights are standard and compatible with many cars. We have a separate article about this.

What does the traffic police think about LED lamps?

In short - nothing good! If the inspector of technical supervision (they are rarely on duty on the roads) reveals the installation of LED, just like gas-discharge (xenon) lamps in the headlights that are not intended for this, the driver of such a car will probably be deprived of his license.

The driver by installing LED lamps in the headlights not intended for them violates paragraph 3.1. Traffic rules of the Russian Federation

Quantity, type of, color, location and mode of operation of external lighting devices do not meet the requirements of the vehicle design.

The key here is the TYPE of lighting devices, the headlight is halogen, and the lamp is LED, or xenon ...

The inspector will try to break you into Part 3 of Article 12.5 of the Administrative Code

Driving a vehicle on the front of which light devices with red lights or red reflective devices are installed, as well as light devices, the color of the lights and the mode of operation of which do not meet the requirements of the Basic Provisions for the admission of vehicles to operation and the duties of safety officials road traffic, entails deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a period of six months to one year with the confiscation of these devices and devices.

Initially, this article was used to prevent drivers from installing sirens, beacons, etc. specialist. signals, but in view of the worst law enforcement and the corruption of courts and law enforcement officials, this article applies to everyone.

See:

- the color of the headlights has not changed - WHITE.

- the operating mode has not changed - as they shone with light, they shine, do not blink.

Loose yourself from the inspector and leave with a fine of 500 rubles. you can, but why take risks and spoil your nerves ... better to install LED optics! So you are guaranteed not to lose your rights and save your nerves.

Here is a photo of the court decision - they will not deprive you of the rights for LED lamps, but they will fray your nerves.

But there is an option - he will lose his rights! here is an example of another solution:

Brief conclusions:

- you can put lamps in the headlights, they will shine.

- the quality of the light is questionable.

- if you do not install "blue" LEDs and do not turn up the light, everything will be OK.

- The traffic police will not deprive you of rights, if you correctly build your defense, but it will flatter your nerves, you may even have to go to court.

That's all for me today. I hope that the article was useful to you and you no longer have any questions about installing LED lamps in headlights.

At one time, fluorescent lamps were considered a real breakthrough - they could be seen in schools, hospitals, kindergartens, other institutions, and even in some apartments. But recently, the attitude towards them has become ambiguous. On the one hand, they are characterized by low electrical energy consumption, long service life and high luminous efficiency. But all these positive qualities pale before their main drawback - fluorescent lamps contain a flask filled with mercury.

With the invention of LED lamps, the need to expose oneself to mortal danger has disappeared, especially since in their characteristics such lamps are in many ways superior to fluorescent ones.

But when we first think about replacing obsolete fluorescent lamps, we face the question: how to do it with the least material costs, because the cost of LED lamps is quite high, and a complete replacement will cost us a tidy sum. It is much easier to replace only the lamps, especially since it is quite simple to do this if you know some of the features. So, let's consider in order how to connect an LED lamp instead of a fluorescent lamp yourself.

Introduction

The LED lamp manufacturer has made our lives easier for a long time with the release of the T8, suitable for the G13 base. It remains only to slightly alter the old lamp. To do this, it is necessary to dismantle all unnecessary components from the wiring diagram.

Let's see how to connect an LED lamp instead of a fluorescent lamp on the circuit of a standard raster lamp with four fluorescent tubes, which is most often found with a ballast and a starter.

Fluorescent lamp connection diagram

LDS luminaires have additional equipment that is necessary for their operation. LED lamps do not require these additions: everything necessary for their normal functioning is already built into the body from the very beginning. Therefore, before connecting an LED lamp instead of a fluorescent lamp, it is necessary to dismantle all unnecessary and power the lamp contacts directly.

Both categories of luminaires are connected according to the same scheme: the green conductor is connected to the neutral wire, and the red one to the phase. The diagram below shows how to properly connect an LED lamp instead of a fluorescent lamp.

LED lamp connection diagram

This is quite easy to do - you need to connect a phase to one side of the lamp, and zero to the other.

It is not necessary to observe the polarity, since the power is supplied from AC. The wire itself can be connected to any of the contact pins, because each pair of contacts on one side of the LED lamp is shorted to each other.

Alteration of a raster fluorescent lamp

Before that, it is necessary to cut off all the wires coming from the G13 base. After that, it is enough to connect the cable on one side to the phase terminals, and on the other to zero.

Varieties of LED lamps

On sale it is very rare to find LED lamps made in Ukraine, which have contact pins phase and zero are on one side. Before connecting such lamps, it is necessary to first check the connection sides indicated on the lamp. The installation process itself will be the same as in the case of lamps with two-way contacts.

How to properly connect LED crystal lamps

Such lamps require additional equipment to connect the chips:

  • Dimmer;
  • stabilizing transformer 12 V or 24 V.

Any of these stabilizing devices can be assembled by yourself. But for this you need to have certain knowledge and a sufficient amount of time.

Usually additional stabilizing devices are required to connect LEDs, LED elements and LED strips. LED lamps usually have built-in stabilizers.

In this article, we will not consider methods for assembling stabilizing devices for connection, since it is rather difficult to learn this on your own. If you do not have any knowledge of electrical engineering, then before buying, be sure to study the packaging - it usually indicates whether additional equipment is required for connection, and which one.

Illuminated switches

These switches are very convenient to use, but often not compatible with modern lamps. They are best suited for incandescent bulbs. Their disadvantage is that they can flare up at times in the dark, which is not very convenient, especially in the bedroom.

This is due to the fact that a rectifier is provided in the device of such lamps, which converts alternating voltage into direct voltage. To smooth out pulsations, a capacitor is built into the rectifier, which has the ability to accumulate a charge in itself during the operation of the luminaire.

Therefore, when the LED light is connected to a backlit switch, it glows dimly and sometimes flickers even when off. There are several ways to fix this:

  • remove the backlight from the switch;
  • check the correctness of the wiring;
  • connect an incandescent lamp in parallel so that the current does not pass through the rectifier, but through the filament;
  • a shunt resistor so that the capacitor does not accumulate charge;
  • use an LED lamp specially designed for a backlit switch, but it should be borne in mind that such lamps light up for a long time and have a higher cost.

Summing up

As you can see, before connecting an LED lamp instead of a fluorescent lamp, you do not need to completely change the lamps or have a lot of knowledge. It is quite easy to do it yourself with minimal cost, carefully following the instructions.

After these simple redesigns, you will have modern, low energy consumption fixtures that are long lasting and most importantly safe.

Important!

Remember that fluorescent lamps cannot simply be thrown away as they contain mercury. Be sure to dispose of them properly. In almost all major cities there are companies dealing with the disposal of hazardous waste, many of them will be ready to accept lamps absolutely free of charge.

  • There are no white LEDs. They are obtained by spraying a special substance on blue - phosphor.
  • Blue LEDs reduce the body's production of melatonin, the lack of which prevents a person from fully relaxing.
  • The blue color of LEDs negatively affects some food products, for example, milk, altering its taste even through opaque packaging.
  • The pulsing of LEDs reduces the number of animal and bird populations in the city.

In this article, we will talk about where to use LED lamps, and where it is better not to use them. Let's start our conversation with where it is better to put LED lamps, and where they will give the maximum increase in road illumination.

Installation of diode lamps in a headlight with

Installation of diode lamps in a headlamp with an H4 base in 99% of cases will give a significant increase in illumination, as a rule, 2-3 times. That is, H4 and LED bulbs are a must have! The whole problem is that the LED itself is made competently and efficiently, that is, it gets into focus and has chips with a small area, and not with a large one, like in cheap LED lamps. If these conditions are met, you will receive an unprecedented increase in light on the road.
Why is the H4 base the most major in terms of the increase in illumination? This is due to the fact that the H4 halogen itself was designed a long time ago and its design is not optimal. Therefore, it turns out that the efficiency of the lamp is small. But, since the efficiency of the halogen lamp is small, the LEDs, correcting the flaws of this design, very well replace the halogen in this base and you, as a user, get at least 2-3 times improvement in illumination on the road. In addition, the H4 LED lamp, due to its largest dimensions, is the least heat-stressed. This also, as you know, has a positive effect on the characteristics of LEDs.

Installation of diode lamps in a headlight with a base,

The next type of headlights in terms of the efficiency of LED lamps are the so-called "mono bases" in reflector headlights. Mono-sockets are H7, HB4, H11 socles, that is, a separate light, a separate dipped beam section. In them, too, LED lamps shine quite well, but the gain is already somewhat less. What is the reason for this? First of all, due to the fact that the very design of the halogen was developed after the H4 lamp, and in this design the disadvantages of the H4 lamp were already taken into account, and the efficiency of the incandescent lamp itself, that is, the halogen, became much higher. The halogen began to shine brighter, and that is why this standard replaced the more outdated H4 lamp standard. Therefore, it is already more difficult for the LEDs in these bases to compete with the halogen. But still, we can improve the illumination by 1.5-2 times, using good and high-quality lamps, with a well-thought-out heat dissipation system and with correct focus.

A special subgroup are headlamps, in which the base is not installed vertically, but at a certain angle. The bottom line is that in such headlights, where the seat is installed at an angle, even high-quality LED lamps can shine completely incorrectly. This is due to the fact that the halogen itself, installed in the headlight, shines 360 degrees, regardless of whether the base is set straight or at an angle. LED bulbs have not yet learned how to light 360 degrees, so when we put an LED bulb in a headlamp with an angled seat, we can get an incorrect, distorted cut-off line. For such headlights, it is better to use LED lamps that allow the base to rotate relative to the lamp itself, or modify LED lamps where there is no turn.

Installing diode lamps in a headlight with a lens

One of the most challenging sites for LED headlights is lenticular optics and lenticular headlights. If you have a lens in your headlight, then the gain from using LED headlights will be the smallest. This is due to the fact that the reflector of such headlights is the smallest, and even half of this reflector is covered by a curtain that forms the cut-off border. The quality of the cut-off line for such headlights will always be perfect, even by installing LED lamps in them, you will not worsen this indicator in any way. But, often, there is a tendency that after installing LED lamps, the illumination in front of the car remains the same as that of incandescent lamps. True, it is worth noting that at the edges it increases significantly due to the peculiarities of the light distribution of LED lamps.

Installation of diode lamps in a headlight with a base and

Well, the most difficult option for LED lamps is the H1 and H3 caps. Why base plinths H1 and H3? Because those who have seen the H1 and H3 light bulb understand that it is the smallest of all filament lamps. This is extremely important for LEDs because heat dissipation is important to them. It is one thing to remove heat from chips on a board with a width of, for example, 1-1.5 cm, and another thing on a board about 5 mm wide. Accordingly, the higher the temperature of the chips, the worse they shine, and their service life is also shorter. Therefore, it is extremely difficult for manufacturers to make a well-luminous, high-quality and long-lasting LED lamp. Chip manufacturers are certainly working on such parameters as increasing the operating temperature of the chips and their lifespan, but work in this area is not going as fast as we would like.

What is this service?

LED headlights are becoming more and more popular with car enthusiasts. They combine stylish looks and high practicality. Installation of LED headlights in general, it is produced the same for all models, although there are many variations.

Most of the time, drivers use LED lights as a decorative trick, although they provide practical benefits when properly installed and configured. So the light spot becomes more saturated, does not dazzle driving towards drivers and has the ability to adjust.

Installation of LED running lights in the headlights

This process is not very complicated, but at the same time, you need to follow a number of recommendations in order to get the maximum benefit from such an upgrade. LED cells are connected to the battery in a parallel-serial scheme, which allows several lamps to be powered at once and at the same time maintain the same voltage. Typically, a 9 V voltage regulator is used for this, and gel silicone is squeezed into the case for insulation. To protect the car from excessive heating, its elements can be coated with nitro paint. is carried out in parallel with the installation of the main headlights, either standardly or as an additional option.

Before installation, it is necessary to develop a connection diagram in advance. In this case, you can create a light pattern of almost any shape. It is better to use for this not superglue, but ordinary mounting. This will help in the future to easily replace a failed element. Installing LED bulbs in headlights produced by drilling holes of the required size (depending on the type of LED element). At the same time, do not forget that the light of such lamps is diffuse and must be focused. But the easiest way is to find out a specialist who will give answers to all your questions and even.

Keep in mind

Many car enthusiasts ask the question: “ is it possible to install LED lamps in the headlights"? In some cases, the traffic police may classify the modification of light lights as an offense. Therefore, before installing LED headlights, it is necessary to consult with specialists.

  • Use only certified products.
  • There is no need to fix the LEDs "tightly" - in the future, in the event of a breakdown, it can be easily replaced.
  • It is recommended to engage specialists to adjust and configure the electronics if you do not have the necessary skills.

When releasing modern LED car lamps, manufacturers take into account that many car enthusiasts will install them instead of standard ones. Therefore, most LEDs are produced with standard caps, which makes it possible to simply replace the traditional lamp with an LED one without any alterations. The main problem with the installation is different; which lamp to choose for different vehicle lighting systems?

Front parking lights

Today, manufacturers in most cases install lamps without a base on manufactured cars. Such a lighting device has the code W5W (the base is marked as T10). If you have a lamp with a base installed, then it will be type T4W (base brand BA9S), or H6W lamp (here the BAX9S base has projections offset from each other by 120 degrees). For example, devices of the T4W type with BA9S base are standard for Russian VAZ "" cars (models 2101-2106).

When installing side lamps, it is necessary to remember about the peculiarities of the location of these lighting devices: they are located next to a powerful source of heat - high-beam lamps. Therefore, there is a risk of destruction of the LED crystals. To avoid such a "nuisance", LED lamp manufacturers supply their products with current stabilizers. They reduce the voltage supply as the temperature rises. Stabilizer lamps designations:
- T10-1WF, T10-5SF, T10-9SE: without base;
- BA9S-1WF: with base.

Rear dimensions, brake lights

Today, the bulk of cars are produced with two-pin conventional lamps, where one contact is responsible for the dimensions, the other for the feet. The marking of such a lamp is P21 / 5W, the base is designated as BAY15D, or 1157. LED lamps with two contacts are marked as follows:
- 5WF series;
- SMD: such devices can have from 15 to 27 LEDs;
- SF: Considered a budget option that uses SuperFlux (or "piranha").

If a lamp with one contact is installed in the car, then the base will be designated 1156, or BA15S. On a number of Japanese and American cars, lamps without a base can be installed. In this case, one-pin are marked as W21W (base of the 7440 series), two-pin as W21 / 5W (base of the 7443 series).

Turn signals

Here, single-contact lamps with a power of 21 W (P21W) and a BA15S or 1156 base are installed. If the optics in the car is transparent, then lamps with yellow glass are suitable: PY21W with a BAU15S base, or 1156. To replace these lamps with LED ones, you must use products of the SF, SMD, 5W series. There is also a nuance here; after installation, the LED lamps start blinking much more often, so you will have to replace the standard turn signal relay with a special, designed one. However, you can get out of the situation in another way; you need to connect a resistance in parallel to the LED that simulates a standard lamp - then the blinking frequency is normalized.
